Goodnight My Someone: Pokey 7/12/12

The baddest cat in the whole damn town , Pokey Pokerson was laid to rest under her beloved boxwoods today.  She was covered with flowers from every corner of her yard. The stone that marks her spot was adorned with sprigs of fresh rosemary.  There is a pot of basil by the boxwoods this summer and she would crawl out smelling like a big bowl of pesto.

We will remember her.

The condolence notes are already coming in.  Here's one from my former partner Tony:

" I am surprisingly sad to hear this news considering she was possibly the meanest ( or fiercest) cat I've ever known..."

20 years old, only the good die young.

Sleep tight my someone. Sleep tight my fierce little love.

  5. dogs are wonderful, donkeys are delightful, rabbits are adorable, but cats do rule. What a gal. Bringing virtual flowers to her little resting place. Bye Pokey.

    1. We used an entire box of kleenex while at the vet's. But we feel better knowing she's at peace and in no pain.

    1. I remember when Ros would chase her around and around the house in the morning to get her back inside before we went to work.

One crazier than the next there:-)

  15. Hello Jane

So sorry for your loss. I am sure Pokey would love this obituary. What a great life she lived and that you allowed her to be bad is wonderful. A cat needs attitude to survive. I know she will be missed.
(My friend buried her dog recently in the back yard and she played "Candle in the Wind")

  20. Oh Jane that is so hard. All my cats have been mad and bad but always so loved. I really, really do know how you are feeling and send you and GG big hugs. xxx

  21. Jane, sweetheart, I'm sending you a big hug this morning. Everyone needs the company of a bad-ass cat in their life ... They teach us so much. I'm really sorry.

  22. I'm so sorry for your loss. I cry ridiculously over cats. I had a nasty natured cat years ago--Peaches. She didn't like anyone but me and some days she didn't even like me. I still cried like a baby when the vet ruled out anything treatable and we chose to put her down. We're sending hugs your way today.

  24. Living with.. and loving a fierce, tiny little bundle of attitude,Sati, who is sure she is a mountain lion and has our huge dog cowed, I am sympathetic to the mixed feelings you have about losing Pokey. But when they are sweet, they are very, very sweet and I know you will miss Pokey.
